About Us

What we do

Kafkacotton makes socially-responsible, smart t-shirts for anyone who ever loved a book.  5% of all proceeds go towards fighting illiteracy.

Why we do it

Brian here. I dreamed up Kafkacotton after rereading (and re-loving) Joseph Heller’s “Catch-22.” Great books take us places, mix us up, and bring us back changed – but then what?

Those living, breathing characters we’ve come to love – why do we have to bury them back on the bookself like nothing happened? And I realized we don’t.

Let’s take all those amazing, hilarious, monumental books and cut them loose in our lives. We’ll share the gift of reading, find each other, and maybe discover something entirely new.  I’m excited to see what happens.

Who we are

Brian Crabtree

Brian Crabtree is a digital nomad, a proud mustache-wearer, and a pretty bad guitarist. He grew up in Singapore and Tokyo and is currently traveling across America in search of same.  You might catch him in a small-town library tinkering with a new design.

Reilly Stroope

Reilly Stroope infamously won a Threadless t-shirt competition with his first very first submission. When he’s not revolutionizing the t-shirt industry as the founder of Kingstrike, he’s posting his own crazy designs here.  Reilly nests in Bedford, Texas.

Budi Satria Kwan

Budi Satria Kwan is a design superstar based out of Singapore and Indonesia. He’s been printed by too many sites to name here (17 and counting at Threadless!) so just check him out at his homepage.

Nate Jones

Nate Jones is in charge of taking the 1’s and 0’s of the designs and turning them into awesome shirts.  He knows his inks.  He’s a Utahn living in sunny Salt Lake City.
